Cooperation of museums for the development of museum education in the Polish-Czech borderland

Project objective

Developing museum education in the region together with the Czech partner. Throughout the project, the Museum of Ceramics carried out a series of regular decorative workshops related to Christmas, carnival, Easter and pottery (the latter accompanied the Bolesławiec Festival of Ceramics). Five exhibitions were prepared together with the Czech partner. The following two were presented at the Museum of Ceramics: “Painted furniture from the Karkonosze region” and “Winter sports in the Karkonosze Mountains”. The former consisted of traditional wooden furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries; the latter showed the development of winter sports practiced in the Karkonosze Mountains before World War II. Both exhibitions were based on the collection of the Krkonoše Museum in Vrchlabí. In turn, two exhibitions were presented in Vrchlabí: “Archeology of the Bolesławiec district” that featured the most interesting monuments obtained in the course of archaeological investigations conducted by the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec, and “Not only the Karkonosze Mountains” prepared together with the Bolesławiec Photographic Association “Camera”. The final event was an iconographic exhibition presented simultaneously at both partners. It featured old prints, photographs and postcards depicting both cities in the past. Both partners also prepared mock-ups of their cities to be included later into their permanent historical exhibitions.  The project also provided funds to make permanent exhibitions of both departments of the Bolesławiec museum more attractive. Dedicated videos, presentations and games explaining the history of the city and Bolesławiec ceramics were made available to visitors by means of modern multimedia equipment. A new, responsive website of the Musem has also been created.
