Mariusz Ochocki

Bolesławiec artistic community – Mariusz Ochocki

Regardless of the inspiration in the creative process, I am constantly looking for the perfect design, drawing from both tradition and modernity. I believe that dinnerware must not only be beautiful, but also functional.
Mariusz Ochocki
Interview with the artist, "Ambiente" 2017, no. 1

This post from the series “Boleslawiec artistic community” was prepared within the framework of the project “Boleslawiec – 30 years of local government” implemented by the Museum of Ceramics and the Boleslawiec Cultural Center – International Ceramics Center

Mariusz Ochocki was born in 1962 in Bolesławiec. He is a graduate of the State Higher School of Visual Arts (now the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts) in Wrocław, where he studied in the sculpture studio under Prof. Feliks Kociankowski and in the ceramic technique and technology studio under Prof. Stanisław Szyba.

He is involved in ceramic design, sculpture and printmaking. In 1991 he started working at the Cooperative of Artistic Crafts “Ceramika Artystyczna” in Bolesławiec as a mould designer. Since 2012, he has held the position of chief designer and artistic director at this company. His forms are mainly based on simple geometric shapes, such as a sphere or a cuboid. In his most recent designs, the dominant shape is the truncated cone.

The introduction of solids with truncated sides in place of oval ones has created a new space for the application of simple geometric motifs that wrap around the surface of the vessels. His new collections, particularly the sushi set, have been received with great interest, becoming one of the most frequently purchased sets in the Asian, American and European markets.
